When the discussion strays from what may lead to the target, we can bring one on a journey of thoughts we choose.
The idea is to rephrase what he said, telling him that what he says is interesting and propose to discuss this point later and make a wish to discuss another point.
For example:
"What happened ....( briefly restate what he said), can be interesting, but do not you think it would be important to refocus on the question (and you mention that you lead to
the purpose of discussion), to find solutions?
Or: "And if we were talking about ...?" (Goal)
Guide the discussion to solve a problem:
"A problem well stated is a problem halved", hence the importance of the reformulation can be done also by means of questions. To solve a problem, it is imperative to understand and to restate the goals of one who has this problem.
Cause the other to change the discussion by asking an open question that goes to development.
To reach conclusive results, it should therefore establish a "framework" by helping the other to clearly define clear objectives and precise.
It also cause the other to reformulate their expectations in a realistic, objective and positive ("what you want" and not "what does not). So inviting him to give more details and clarifications concerning the attainment of its objective.
